Rafsan Hossain Rubel, 26 managed to flee from police escort on Sunday when he was taken there for recording of his statement before a magistrate.

Two policemen were suspended for negligence of duty following the incident but it was not immediately clear how he managed to flee – for simple negligence of duties by police or in connivance with the law enforcer.

Rapid Action Battalion arrested Rubel from Airport Railway Station area on Friday and handed over to Badda Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Imran Ul Hasan and Constable Deepak Chandra Roy, who were suspended, took Rubel to the court for the recording of a confessional statement on Sunday, DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told bdnews24.com.

"He tricked them and gave them the slip before taking him to the magistrate's room," Masudur said.

Kotwali Police Station OC Abul Hasan said Rubel 'just vanished' from outside the door of the magistrate's room around 3pm.

The police officials could not say whether Rubel was handcuffed and roped.

The court's General Recording Officer Md Selim was not in his office when bdnews24.com tried to contact him in the afternoon.

Police (prosecution department) Senior Assistant Commissioner Mirash Uddin told bdnews24.com that Rubel was not taken to the Court Hajat (custody).

Rubel is convicted in one of the nine cases over rape, extortion, attempted robbery, drugs and other offences.

In the latest case against him filed on Oct 28, he is accused of raping a girl of Garo tribal girl in Badda. Police also arrested his accomplice Salauddin Mina in this connection.
