The incident occurred on Monday evening at a suburban neighbourhood in the district town.

The victim has been identified as ‘Puja’, a 9th grade student at the local Jamila Khatun High School, said local police station OC Harendranath Sarkar.

She has been admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for treatment, he said.

A man named Litu had harassed the girl with romantic advances, said Jhenaidah Additional Police Super Ajbahar Ali Sheikh, and she had rejected him.

“On Monday evening, Litu climbed onto the roof of the girl's house and attacked her with a knife. Afterwards he fled,” said SI Sheikh.

The victim's family filed a case accusing five people late on Monday, said OC Sarkar.

“Police have detained two of Litu’s accomplices, Ruhul Amin and Rupa Begum,” he said.
