Police, school students clash in Habiganj, at least 22 injured

At least 22 people have been injured in a clash between students of a school and police in Habiganj.

Police fired nearly 100 rounds of rubber bullets and teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, Superintendent Joydeb Kumar Bhadra told reporters after the clash on Wednesday.
 
The clash occurred in the afternoon following a demonstration by the students of Bahubal Dinnath Model School who were demanding nationalisation of their institution.
 
Bahubal police OC Moniruzzaman said the students after their protests suddenly attacked the police station and vandalised it.
 
Several policemen were injured.
 

SP Bhadra said one Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain had been withdrawn over the incident.
The injured victims were admitted to different hospitals.
Bahubal Upazila Health Complex’s Dr Abdul Kuddus said they gave first aid to 15 people and released them.
“One Abdul Matin, 55, has been sent to Sylhet in critical condition. Three others have been sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital and three more are being treated here.”
