Bangladesh war crimes suspect dies at Dhaka hospital

A man from Netrokona, accused of 1971 war crimes, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Dhaka Central Jail's Senior Superintendent Jahangir Kabir said Ramzan Ali, 74, died at the hospital around 5:30pm on Friday.

Ali was undergoing treatment there for kidney, lungs and stomach diseases, he said.

Kabir told bdnews24.com an ailing Ali was taken to DMCH from Kashimpur prison on Sep 8 and admitted there.

Police arrested Ali on Apr 13 in Narsinghdi's Kauriaparha launch terminal.

Media reports say he had been living in Narsinghdi for the past 20 years under a false name.

About the case against Ali, International Crimes Tribunal's investigation wing chief Abdul Hannan Khan said, "Ramzan Ali was one of the four accused arrested in a case over war crimes committed in Netrokona in 1971. We are still investigating."

"We are  collecting all information about the accused. Our findings will be submitted to the tribunal after the investigation is complete," he said.
