Indian high commissioner looks into feasibility of Kolkata-Khulna train service

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla has visited Jessore district and looked into the “feasibility” of starting the Kolkata-Khulna train service.

The high commission said during the Friday visit, he met local administrators and visited the Benapole Land Port.

MP Sapan Bhattacharjee, and Deputy Commissioner Humayun Kabir received him at the Jessore Airport.

Shringla had a breakfast meeting with MPs Md Monirul Islam and Swapan Bhattacharjee, and district administration officials and community representatives at Vivekananda Bhawan located on the Ramakrishna Mission premises at Jessore.

He then went to Benapole-Petrapole.  At Benapole, he visited the Benapole Land Port with the Chairman of the Land Port Authority of Bangladesh Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, the high commission said.

The Indian envoy also visited the Benapole railway station to weigh the feasibility of starting the Kolkata-Khulna trains.

He also interacted with C&F agents in Benapole.

Shringla inspected the newly inaugurated Integrated Check Post in Petrapole with the Chairman of the Land Port Authority of India YS Sherawat, and interacted with the customs, immigration and land port authority officials of both India and Bangladesh.
