Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism unit had pleaded to take Sadman into custody for 10 days in this case.

But Metropolitan Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin on Wednesday granted two days, Sadman’s lawyer Rubel Al Kaiyum told bdnews24.com.

Sadman was sentenced to three years in jail in the verdict given in December last year for the February 2013 murder of blogger and Ganajagaran Mancha activist Rajib.

The former North South University (NSU) student got out of Gazipur’s Kashimpur prison on Jul 21, but police arrested him from the prison gate.

His arrest had come in the backdrop of the terror attacks at Dhaka’s Gulshan and Kishoreganj’s Sholakia, and involvement of NSU students in them.

After his arrest, Sadman was handed over to the Detective Branch of the DMP, Joydebpur Police Station OC Khandker Rezaul Hasan had told bdnews24.com.

The remand plea, which was heard on Wednesday, said several members of militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, including Sadman and Ibrahim Ibn Molla, had gathered at the Eidgah ground near Dhaka Zoo at Mirpur on Aug 2 to plan acts of sabotage.

Sadman and Ibrahim were caught during a police raid, but the others had fled, it said.

Later, counter-terrorism unit’s Inspector Md Monirul Islam started the anti-terrorism case against the two. Ibrahim was also sent to two days of police remand on Wednesday.

Sadman’s father Hasib Mahmud told bdnews24.com that they did not know about his son’s whereabouts since he was picked up from the Kashimpur jail gate.

“I rushed to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today after I learned about the hearing. But it had ended before I got there.”
