A police officer involved in the operations told bdnews24.com that the drives in Mohammadpur and Rajabazar were launched after Thursday midnight.

The officer, requesting anonymity, said around 2:15am on Friday that no-one was detained until then.

Security forces atre conducting anti-militancy operations after the killings of 25 people, including 17 foreigners and four policemen, in Gulshan and Sholakia terror attacks earlier this month.

In a similar raid in Kalyanpur early on Tuesday, suspected militants shot at police from their hideout.

Nine of the ‘militants’ were killed and another was captured alive.

The Kalyanpur ‘militants’ include Raihan Kabir alias Tarek, the coordinator of the Dhaka unit of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), according to police.

Police say Tarek had trained the Gulshan attackers who were killed in a raid ending the 12-hour siege in the Gulshan cafe.

They also say all the militants killed in Kalyanpur and Gulshan were from the JMB.
