Another 12 have been hospitalised in critical condition after the incident on Wednesday night, said Narhail Sadar Hospital’s doctor Anik Saha.

The dead have been identified as Emamul Haque, 18, ‘Alif’, 8 and ‘Ashraful’.

Saha said that they suspected food poisoning had caused the deaths.

The 12, who were being treated at the Narhail hospital, have been transferred to Jessore as their condition turned critical, he added.

A teacher of the madrasa ‘Ibrahim’ said that the incident took place around 9:30pm on Wednesday after 30 students and a few teachers finished dinner.

“Within a few minutes after dinner, students started to throw up. Three of them died while being taken to the hospital,” he said.
