Authorities have stopped the shuttle trains between the Chittagong University campus and the city following the incident on Wednesday morning during agitation by the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.

Md Shahabuddin, Master of the Sholashar Rail Station in the port city, said a rail police sub inspector and a locomotive master have been treated for injuries sustained during stone-throwing by the agitators.

“Agitators blocked the day’s first shuttle train to the campus at the Jhautala station for more than an hour from 8am.

“It later left but was attacked with stones at Murdapur area, which forced us to stop the shuttle service,” he told bdnews24.com.

BCL Chittagong University unit’s committee was announced on Sunday, provoking a BCL faction to agitation from Monday.

They announced a blockade for Wednesday after two days of protest on campus.

CU students said that the campus-bound train was attacked around 9am. Police fired in the air to disperse the agitators, but the train returned to Sholoshahar station in the city.

“The shuttle service has been stopped due to security concerns,” said railway official Shahabuddin.
