The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) said Mohammad Ali was picked up from his home at Dhaka’s Shyamoli on Wednesday.

In 2015, the graft watchdog filed a case with police accusing Ali of acquiring wealth worth Tk 2.3 million beyond his known income sources.

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said that he has been shown arrested in that case.

In 2013, the ACC started an inquiry on Ali, who was appointed at the city corporation in 2005 as a Class III employee, after graft allegations surfaced against him.

He got promoted as a ‘kanungo’ (land official) in 2010.

He was summoned by the ACC quite a few times, but failed to provide any credible explanation.

Ali is accused of irregularities in allotting over 200 shops at malls in Dhaka owned by the city corporation.

The case details say that his income tax returns show assets worth Tk 3.63 million but investigations revealed assets of Tk 5.9 million.
