Police said a shooting erupted at Khilgaon around 2am on Sunday between a Detective Branch unit and ‘criminals,’ during which a man was caught in the cross-fire.

The victim, between 30 to 35, is yet to be identified, said Khilgaon police’s Sub Inspector Nirandranath Paul.

He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3am when the doctors declared him dead, said the hospital police outpost’s Sub Inspector Bacchu Mia.

According to rights group ‘Ain o Salish Kendra’, as many as 192 people were killed in 2015 in such ‘shootouts'.

Human rights activists have blamed the security forces and police for these ‘extra-judicial killings' and pulling up the government for making no effort to control them.
