Bangladesh Ambassador Saida Muna Tasneen told bdnews24.com that Prof Khaleda Ekram breathed her last early on Tuesday morning in Bangkok.
The 66-year old professor was suffering from “non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a kind of cancer, and other related medical complications”.
For the last 10 days she was battling for life at the Bangkok General Hospital.
She died around 3am.
The embassy in a statement said they were completing all formalities before sending the body to Dhaka by Bangladesh Biman flight on Wednesday.
The ambassador, who is a former student of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been taking care of her treatment “personally”.
She recalled the professor was a “highly qualified and very dynamic” teacher.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier granted Tk 2 million from her ‘Special Fund’ to support the treatment, according to the embassy.
Her condition was deteriorating fast and she was flown to Bangkok from Dhaka in a critical condition by emergency air ambulance early on May 14, the embassy said.
