The traders were returning to their neighbourhood after buying vegetables from the wholesale market in Manikganj’s Jaagir.
It took six fire-fighting units more than two hours to douse the flames at the factory, which manufactured threads from jute fibre and sacks.
“The fire was put out around 12:30pm,” Khulna Fire Service’s Assistant Director Liyakat Ali told bdnews24.com.
Flames erupted at the ‘Mandal Jute Mill’ in Khukna’s Dhighalia Upazila after 9:30am, but no casualties have been reported, said police.
Witnesses said the fire broke out when the workers were about to start the day’s operations and spread immediately.
“The fire is under control, but the damage is yet to be assessed,” said the factory’s owner Rabiul Ahsan Zico.
