Sub-Inspector Moloy Kumar Saha filed a police complaint (general dairy) alleging that the minister beat him up early on Saturday when he offered Joy security after a road traffic accident involving the minister’s car.

The police official also informed his higher officials about the incident.

SI Saha, who was in-charge of security in the area that time, went to the spot of the accident when the minister’s car veered onto a road island at Nabinagar around 2am on his way to Dhaka from Sirajganj, according to the complaint.

The SI said in the complaint the minister had asked him, “Why have you come to give me security? Have I asked for it?”

“Are you fit to give me security? Do you want to see how many shots I can fire and how many you can?” he jeered.

When the police official spoke about his duty, Minister Joy lost his temper and threatened to dismiss him, Saha alleged in the complaint.

The minister then got on a Dhaka-bound inter-district bus.

According to the complaint, the police official followed Joy and also got on the bus ‘for the sake of the minister’s security and saving his own job’.

The minister got angrier at his move and beat him up in the bus, Saha alleged.

The police official, following the minister, got off the bus and returned to his post when Joy rented an auto-rickshaw at Mirpur’s Gabtoli.

Police tried to cover up the incident throughout the day. Even Saha requested reporters not to ‘exaggerate’.

Ashulia police OC Mohsinul Qadir denied the incident. No other official agreed to comment.

Minister Joy’s mobile phone was found switched off. bdnews24.com could not reach him through the phone at his home.
