Flames and smoke were seen at Karhail’s Beltola near Mohakhali T&T ground around 8pm on Monday.

Fire Service Control Room official Bhajan Kumar Sarker told bdnews24.com they brought the fire under control after one hour.

Quoting witnesses, bdnews24.com’s correspondent Kamal Talukder, who was at the scene, said 50 shanties had been gutted.

Fire Services did not provide any details of the damage. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

One of the injured men said he sustained injuries while trying to save his family from the fire.

Another became sick after inhaling fumes.

Several fire-fighting units got stuck in heavy traffic near Mohakhali Wireless Gate while trying to rush to the spot.

The units were delayed because of the narrow lanes leading to the slum.
