She earlier confessed to the crime to the RAB.

Rampura police OC Mustafizur Rahman said, “Her statements are nearly identical. But we’ll probe whether there are any other motives behind the murder of the children.”

Rahman is the investigation officer of the case the children’s father, Amanullah, filed accusing Jasmine on Thursday night.

“We questioned her on Friday night. She admitted nonchalantly that she had killed her children out of anxiety over their education,” the OC toldbdnews24.com on Saturday.

Nusrat Aman Oroni, 14, and her brother Alvi Aman, 6, were found unconscious at their Banasree home in Dhaka on the afternoon of Feb 29.

They were declared dead after being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

RAB had brought the parents from Jamalpur to the capital on Wednesday. The elite force on Thursday also said Jasmine had confessed to killing her two children “out of anxiety over their education and future”.

A Dhaka court on Friday sent her into police custody for five days for questioning.

Question has been raised over the ‘psychological stability’ of Jasmine, but RAB said she was ‘mentally sound’ when she admitted to the crime.

Jasmine is currently being held at Rampura Police Station, Sub-Inspector Sima Akter told bdnews24.com Saturday morning.

“No one from her family has come to visit her and brought her food.”

However, Jasmine’s brother, Zakir Hossain Sarker refuted the RAB claim. “My sister cannot kill anyone. She loved her children very much.”

Demanding a ‘proper’ investigation, he said, “RAB said it, but my sister didn’t say in front of everyone that she killed her children.”

After their deaths, the family had claimed the children had died after eating leftovers brought from a local Chinese restaurant where they had dined on Feb 28 night.

But forensic experts at Dhaka Medical College Hospital found bruises and finger prints on their throats as well as injury marks on several parts of their bodies during the autopsy.

RAB said Jasmine had admitted to strangling them to death with a scarf.

Amanullah was not at home at the time. His mother was at home with Jasmine and the two children.

Rampura police OC Mustafizur Rahman said they would also question the grandmother to get her account of the day the children died.

Amanullah is currently staying at a relative’s house at Rampura.

“We’re in a lot of trouble, brother. I just wanted to help them. But now my life has become miserable because of the numerous calls made by journalists,” a relative seeking anonymity told the bdnews24.com.

Other relatives of the family, including Jasmine’s brother, were most of the times unreachable as their mobile phones were found switched off, Rahman said.
