Rupganj police OC Md Mahmudul Islam said a gang of robbers raided the house of one Abdul Quddus Sikdar in Zinda area early on Saturday.

Quoting witnesses and victims, he said the robbers had hacked the residents of that house with sharp weapons while looting about Tk 150,000 and 25 bhoris of gold jewellery.

The locals chased and caught three of them when they were trying to flee, Islam told bdnews24.com.

He said the locals beat two of the ‘robbers’ to death on spot while the third was declared dead by doctors at the Upazila Health Complex when he was taken there.

The five injured, including Sikdar, his wife and son, were admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka’s Uttara.

OC Islam said the robbers had created panic by exploding at least three crude bombs while trying to flee. Another unexploded bomb was recovered from the scene.

The bodies of the ‘robbers’ have been sent to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police said they were also trying to catch the other culprits.

Eight robbers were also lynched at the district’s Arhaihajar two months ago.
