Shahriar Alam to represent Bangladesh in special UN meeting for LDCs in New York

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has left for New York to represent Bangladesh at a special meeting for the least developed countries (LDCs) on Feb 11.

The president of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly will convene the one-day special thematic event at the UN Headquarters in New York.
 
It is titled “Building Synergy and Coherence in the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) in the context of the 2030 Development Agenda”.
 
The IPoA charts out the international community’s vision and strategy for the sustainable development of LDCs for the next decade with a strong focus on developing their productive capacities.
 
The primary objective of the special thematic event is to build a common ground on how the implementation of the IPoA can be enhanced during the remainder of the decade.
 
It is by building synergies and coherence in the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action and the new 2030 sustainable development agenda, according to the UN.
 
Member states, non-governmental organisations, civil society, the private sector, and academic institutions will participate and provide their inputs.
 
The state minister, who left Dhaka on Sunday, will present a keynote at the opening session, the foreign ministry said.
