RAB -10 commander Jahangir Hossain Matubbar told bdnews24.com that Motahar Hossain, a relative of the boy, was shot dead at South Kernaiganj’s Chitkhola early on Monday.

“Around 4am, a RAB patrol asked two men on motorbikes to stop, but they opened fire, forcing the RAB to retaliate. One of them was shot and the other managed to escape,” he said.

The bullet-hit man was taken to the Mitford Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead, said the RAB official.

He said the body was later identified as Motahar Hossain’s.

Eleven-year-old Abdullah’s decomposed body was found at Hossain’s house last Tuesday, four days after he was kidnapped.

Hossain is the maternal uncle of Abdullah’s mother and paternal uncle of his father.

The police were interrogating four people, including Hossain’s son and daughter, arrested in connection with the murder.

Abdullah’s family alleges that he was abducted and killed, as he had chanced upon Hossain's clandestine factory that printed fake currency.

The fifth-grader went missing on Jan 29. The kidnappers told the family over phone to pay a ransom of Tk 500,000 and the family paid Tk 200,000.

On Feb 2, the body was recovered from Hossain’s home.
