Convicts Mehedi Hasan Swapan, 22, and Suman Jamaddar, 20, were present when Pirojpur Judge Md Golam Kibria delivered the judgment on Sunday.
According to the case details, the victim used to live with her grandparents in Mothbarhi Upazila and study in Class-III at a local school.
They then raped the child and strangled her to death with a scarf, according to the confessions of the convicts.
“Swapan wanted to marry the elder sister of the victim. On being turned down; he sought revenge by raping the younger sister. He was also planning to abduct the elder sister,” said Public Prosecutor Abdur Razzak Khan.
The court also ordered the convicts to pay Tk 100,000 each to the victim’s family.
“If heinous criminals like Swapan and Suman are allowed to live in a country born through the sacrifice of three million lives, other criminals will feel encouraged to commit similar crimes,” the judge said.
