Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told bdnews24.com that she paid tolls for the Dhaleshwari bridge in Munshiganj and the Mayor Hanif flyover in Dhaka on Saturday.

The law, however, exempts the prime minister from paying taxes for the use of such facilities by her official vehicles.

Shakil said the car carrying the prime minister stopped at the toll points of both places and her Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin paid the toll on the prime minister’s behalf.

Salman Karim, Managing Director of the Orion Group, which built and maintains the flyover, told bdnews24.com: “The prime minister paid Tk 3,000. It’s an unforgettable gesture.”

Earlier, Hasina flew to Jajira by helicopter in the morning to inaugurate the river training work of the 6.15-kilometre bridge.

Later, she inaugurated the main work of the bridge and addressed a public meeting at Mawa.

The prime minister’s motorcade started for Dhaka from Mawa in the afternoon.
