She was delivering the welcome speech of the meeting of Awami League’s Central Working Committee and Parliamentary Board at Ganabhaban on Thursday.

“A true Muslim never takes the path of terrorism,” she said.

“Killing people during prayers at mosques is not a job done by a true Muslim... nor is suicide a job of a true Muslim,” she added.

Moments before her speech, miscreants shot a muezzin dead and injured three others in an attack on a Shia mosque during prayers in Bogra.

“Those who are carrying out acts of terrorism in the name of religion are deranged,” Hasina said.

The Awami League chief also expressed concern that such terrorist activities would make the lives of Muslims across the globe miserable.

Suicide is a sin in Islam, she pointed out.

“How do they carry out suicide attacks on mosques?” she wondered.

“[Terrorists are] tarnishing the image of Islam by killing people in the name of religion,” she said.

She urged the youths of Bangladesh to raise their voice against terrorism.

The Awami League chief expressed disappointment over the recent travel alerts Western countries issued for Bangladesh in the wake of the murders of foreigners.

“Did we issue red alert when my Nazmul (Awami League’s US unit vice-president Nazmul Islam) was killed in America?” Hasina asked.

Nazmul Islam’s body was found on a street of New York on June 9, 2014.

Hasina said Bangladesh was safer than the US and Australia.
