But Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman has said it will not be possible to elevate all primary schools to grade-VIII by 2018.

Typically, the primary level includes grade-I to grade-V.

Grade-V students have to sit PSC tests while grade-VIII students have to take Junior School Certificate (JSC) and equivalent tests.

“We’ll consider holding a single examination once that happens,” he told reporters on Sunday.

The government plans to elevate all primary schools to grade-VIII by 2018 under the National Education Policy.

So far, 500 primary schools have undergone the transformation.

On Nov 1, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid had hinted at scrapping the PSC tests.

Minister Rahman, when asked about Monday’s deferred PSC tests, said, “We’ve pushed it back to avert untoward incidents.”

The Jamaat-e-Islami has called a countrywide shutdown for Monday in protest against the execution of its former secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid for war crimes.

Monday’s scheduled examinations will be held on Nov 30.
