Zaheed Reza Noor, whose father journalist Shirajuddin Hossain was slained by anti-liberation forces on December 14, 1971, just before the end of the war of independence, was giving his reaction to bdnews24.com.

War criminals Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid were executed at 12.55am early on Sunday morning.

“I do not feel any joy because this should have happened 44 years ago,” Noor said.

He maintained that the country “now needs directives to progress”.

“We cannot afford to go astray now. Our culture and our politics need to take the right course,” he concluded.

Noor felt that this was a “long awaited” judgment that took too long to come. But he was satisfied that it finally came.

He appreciated the fact that many freedom fighters and war-time widows were still alive to see this moment.
