Five to die for murdering child in Jamalpur

A Jamalpur court has sentenced five men to death for the killing of a seven-year-old child.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Wahiduzzaman Shikdar delivered the sentence on Wednesday, acquitting one of the accused.

The convicts are Tofael Islam Heera, 34, Lokman Ali, 58, ‘Aynul’ alias Aynal Haq, 60, his son Anowar Hossain, 35, and Heera’s friend Sohel Rana alias ‘Shipon’, 35.

Aynul and Lokman are in police custody.

One Faruk Hossain, 40, son of convict Aynal, was cleared of the charges, Additional Public Prosecutor Abul Kashem Tara said.

The details of the case reveal that Heera had gone out with his cousin Mottasim Billah on May 31,2001.

Heera, Anowar and Shipon strangled Mottasim and buried him under the floor of a room owned by Anowar.

Police recovered the body 80 days after the murder.

Mottasim’s maternal uncle Ashraf Hossain accused six men of his nephew’s killing in a case with the Sadar Police Station.

Police pressed charges in court against the six men.
