ICT-2, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, was scheduled to give the verdict on Sunday, but decided to defer it by a day.

The court penalised Chowdhury on June 19 for his contemptuous statement regarding the punishment given to British national and journalist David Bergman.

He was made to stand in the dock for an hour and fined Tk 5,000.

In addition, Chowdhury was to spend a month in prison if he failed to pay the fine.

After being in the dock for an hour, he told the media that the verdict was a ‘result of mental illness’ of the three judges.

His lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder told the tribunal on Aug 10 that Chowdhury had tendered his ‘unconditional apologises’ for the remark.

“He got emotional as he was the only one to be punished of the 50 citizens who had issued the statement in connection with the Bergman verdict,” Majumder said.
