Lutfur Rahman, who used to teach at a college in Narail, was arrested around 11am on Thursday from Bagmara Upazila, said Rajshahi-based RAB unit’s deputy chief Major Kamruzzaman.

He claimed Rahman was an adviser to top JMB leaders Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Siddikur Rahman alias ‘Bangla Bhai’, who were hanged in 2007 for the murders of two assistant judges in Jhalakathi.

“Lutfur Rahman was the mastermind behind the 2004 JMB mayhems in Rajshahi region.

“He is accused in 10 cases of murder and looting. He returned to Rajshahi after securing bail from higher court in some of those cases,” said the elite police unit official.

Rahman was handed over to the Bagmara Upazila police, he added.
