Kukrimukri Police Camp SI Nur Mohammad said on Thursday they had reports about the fishermen going missing but they could not launch a rescue due to the adverse weather.

“However, we do not know how many fishermen are actually missing,” SI Nur Mohammad said.

Local administration said Bhola’s adjoining rivers Meghna and Tetulia were flowing above normal levels due to the effect of the tropical storm.

Low-lying areas of Charfassion and Manpura Upazilas have gone under 3-4 feet of water.

Bhola’s Deputy Commissioner Md Selim Reza said people from remote and isolated sand banks were being moved to safe locations.

“A number of local voluntary organisations have been kept on alert to deal with the situation after the storm.”

He added trawlers were instructed to move to safe locations.
