No stranger to controversy for his sly smile and sarcastic comments, much like his father, he was not at the courtroom when the appeal verdict was delivered on Wednesday.

He was seen at lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain’s office afterwards.

Two years ago, Salauddin Quader’s entire family was present on the day the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced him to death.

They were laughing and bantering.

"We are here to witness the farce of a trial…with our whole family to witness the fun," Hummam said
.

But he was stoical on Wednesday and initially declined to speak.

Pressed by reporters, Hummam said his father was innocent.

“I hope one day it will be proved that my father Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was innocent,” he added.

His elder brother Fazlul Quader Chowdhury Faiyaz and cousin Samir Quader Chowdhury were with him. They did not speak.

He then said lawyer Hossain would speak about the verdict.

Hossain expressed ‘frustration’ over the verdict and said they would file a review petition after getting the copy of the full verdict.

They left the office after Hossain had briefed the media.

Salauddin’s wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury and daughter Farzin Quader Chowdhury were not present at the court on Wednesday.
