The Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty for Chowdhury by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Chowdhury has often been described as the 'terror of Chittagong' during the 1971 Liberation War.

The four-member appeals bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha delivered the final verdict on Wednesday.

“This verdict has foiled all conspiracy. It has been proved once again that the Bangladesh people can confront any evil force,” Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar said after the verdict.

“Two of the war crimes verdict have been already implemented. We want to see the execution of Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid and SQ Chowdhury as soon as possible,” he said.

Activists of the Mancha gathered at Shahbagh from 8am, like on the days when other war crimes verdicts were announced.

Elated with the verdict, they started raising slogans supporting the verdict.

They, however, did not bring out a march on Wednesday as they had after earlier verdicts.

Mancha spokesperson Sarkar said they would not be bringing out their customary procession celebrating the verdict out of ‘respect for the law’.
