The port city recorded 212 mm of rainfall between 9am on Thursday and 9am on Friday.

Incessant rain forced match officials to abandon play on the fourth day of the Chittagong Test between Bangladesh and South Africa.

“It’s raining heavily because the monsoon wind is active,” explained Abdul Hamid of the Patenga weather office.

“The showers may continue for another day or two.”

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours in parts of Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions.

Heavy downpour has inundated Chittagong’s low-lying areas, spelling trouble for commuters.
