“I’ve spoken to the home minister. He has told me that the chargesheet will be filed within the next three-four days,” he said at an event in Dhaka on Thursday.

Rajan, 13, was clubbed to death in Sylhet on July 8 on charges of trying to steal a rickshaw van.

The killers recorded the brutal killing and circulated it on the internet, triggering a massive outrage.

“We are making sure that Rajan’s murder trial is done swiftly and the killers get exemplary punishment as ordered by the prime minister,” Huq said.

He added that the case would be fast-tracked once charges are pressed and the government would make sure that the trial is completed quickly.

Police filed a murder case against several men over the killing.

Locals turned over one Muhit Alam when he was trying to dispose of the boy’s body.

So far, 12 people, including Alam’s wife and two witnesses, have been arrested.

Five of them have reportedly confessed to their crime in court.

Another man Tajuddin Ahmed Badal was arrested on Wednesday for alleged involvement in the killing.

Alam’s brother Kamrul Islam has been arrested in Saudi Arabia where he had fled after the murder. The government said the repatriation process would start next week.

“Our aim is to mete out exemplary punishment to anyone who commits such crimes so that these incidents do not occur in future,” Law Minister Huq added.
