Wednesday’s incident left another four getting medical attention at Rangpur Medical College Hospital for serious injuries.

Hospital Director Dr Abdul Baten told bdnews24.com  Liton Mia died at the hospital at about 4.40pm, roughly 10 minutes after he was brought grievously injured.

He said Mahbub-e-Rabbani, Dulal Mia, Yusuf Hossain, and Hasinur Rahman were at the hospital.

Taraganj Police Station OC Tapash Sarker told bdnews24.com that the incident took place when Lutfor Rahman went to plant ‘Aman’ paddy on Rabbani’s land at about 2pm with his people.

Rahman is the uncle of Rabbani.

“Rabbani tried to prevent stop them with his relatives and then both sides locked into clash. At least 10 were injured.”

Liton Mia, son of Yeasin Ali, was on Rabbani’s side.

The OC said the body had been kept at the hospital. No case had been filed, he said at about 8.30pm.

A school teacher of the village, Yeahiya Mia, told bdnews24.com  Rabbani inherited this piece of land from his father.

“But his uncle Lutfor Rahman and his sons were trying to take possession of the land. It was a long standing dispute”.

He said the local chairman had settled this and asked Rahman not to go to that land until it was settled in court.

Union Parishad Chairman Shahinul Islam Marshal acknowledged this resolution, and said it was Rabbani’s land according to 1960 and 1962 records.

“But his uncle was trying to grab this under a 1940 record of his father.”

Rahman, however, denied this, and said he owned this land.

“Rabbani and his group attacked us when we went there to plant paddy.”
