Sujan Mohanta, 17, who works for bdnews24.com’s ‘Hello’ section, came under assault on Sunday night at the district town.

He has been admitted to Kurigram General Hospital.

Mohanta alleged that miscreants had attacked him due to his Facebook posts on eviction of a Puja pavilion.

The journalist said a police complaint regarding the attack was lodged but was later withdrawn for fear of security.

The local administration on July 2 evicted the pavilion adjacent to Kalibarhi in the town. Mohanta wrote several pieces on Facebook against it.

He told bdnews24.com that his acquaintance ‘Badhan’ had called up and taken him behind Nosor Uddin Market on Sunday night.

“Five, including Badhan and Akib indiscriminately beat and kicked me,” he said.

The attackers fled as locals rushed to the scene hearing Mohanta’s cry.

Kurigram Sadar Police Station Sub-inspector Abul Taleb confirmed bdnews24.com of the incident.

He said Mohanta’s family had lodged a complaint but later withdrew it.

Akib’s father Amzad Hossain said the incident had happened in a sequel to misunderstanding among friends.

He said locals had resolved the issue ‘socially’.
