Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Farazi said Ayub Khan, 62, a former commander of Satkania Upazila unit of the Muktijoddha Sangsad, poisoned himself in the morning on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he died after around an hour at 11am.

He had been staying in the hotel at Topkhana Road since June 7.

Citing a suicide note, the SI said Khan had bribed Secretary Mannan fish and money into lobbying for the announcement of South Chittagong unit of the Mukitojoddha Sangsad.

“He (Khan) wrote, ‘I am committing suicide as he (Mannan) insulted me by throwing me out of his house when I demanded that he pay the amount I had given him’,” SI Farazi said.

Mannan’s mobile phone was found switched off.
