BMP Commissioner Shaibal Kanti Chowdhury said Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Abu Saleh Md Raihan was made the head of the committee on Friday and the number of members increased to five from three.

The other members of panel are assistant commissioners Md Asaduzzaman, Apu Sarwar, Shahanaz Parvin and Runa Laila.

Chowdhury said the committee had been asked to report in three days.

About the reason of Ahmed’s removal, the BMP chief said he had kept mum despite being informed of the bribe fund.

“So the probe committee has been reconstituted in the interest of impartial investigation,” he added.

According to Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner (South) Golam Rouf informed a police welfare meeting on June 28 that he had brought the fund raising issue to Ahmed’s notice two months ago.

After learning of the fund from the Police Headquarters, the BMP on June 13 constituted the Ahmed-led committee.

Ahmed is the BMP’s deputy commissioner (Sadar) and heads Detective Branch and Special Branch.
