The fight on Wednesday afternoon on the college campus left four injured, said JnU acting Proctor Nur Muhammad.

The injured are – Kabi Nazrul College’s BCL unit leader Md Shahjalal, activists ‘Kabir’ and ‘Faruq’ and JnU BCL activist ‘Qamrul’.

A Kabi Nazrul BCL activist claimed the clash followed a dispute which began when JnU Chhatra League leaders started demanding money from college students buying admission forms for Master’s from a bank on the college campus.

Shahjalal told bdnews24.com: “Qamrul extorted Tk 200 each from the students who went to the bank to deposit money yesterday (Tuesday). Some students protested today when he came to fleece them again.”

“Qamrul and some other JnU Chhatra League activists beat our students. The college students chased them out. Qamrul was hit on the head.”

After a while, at least 30 BCL supporters from the Jagannath University attacked the college Chhatra League activists, Shahjalal alleged.

The JnU Chhatra League, however, denied the extortion charge.

BCL activist Qamrul could not be reached for comment.

JnU acting Proctor Nur Muhammad told bdnews24.com that the authorities rescued their students after hearing of the clash.

He said he had heard that Qamrul had been forcing the college students to pay. “But we haven’t received any official complaint from Kabi Nazrul College.”
