Last year the number was 6,210.

But this year, candidates from 371 more educational institutions took part in the public exam than the previous year.

It is unclear what caused the slide.

SSC and equivalent results published on Saturday showed an 87.04 percent pass rate with 111,901 students scoring GPA-5.

This time, 2,359 schools in the eight general education boards scored a 100 percent pass rate but madrasa board’s results were better where 2,523 institutions registered a 100 percent pass percentage.

Under the vocational board, 213 institutions achieved the feat.

But the number of institutions with zero pass percentage increased to 47 this year – 38 of them madrasas – which is 23 more than the previous year.
