She said, “Bangladesh has adopted some successful policies to counter economic and social challenges. China could also gain from Bangladesh’s experience.”

The vice premier met Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the National Parliament around noon on Monday.

A parliament secretariat press briefing highlighted Lio’s views.

Lio Yandong said China had maintained friendship with Bangladesh for a long time now, and that it would only grow stronger in future.

Speaking about Bangladesh’s progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goal (MDG), the speaker said, “Reduction in the maternal death rate and child death rate, progress in women’s education, and gender equality, among others, are a few sectors in which Bangladesh has made immense progress.”

Speaker Chaudhury also emphasised women’s contribution to the growth of the garment sector.

In return, the government was guaranteeing a proper work environment, adequate safety and security, housing facilities, and other social amenities to the workers, she said.

She said Bangladesh and China could work together in reducing poverty, climate-change issues, and regional cooperation.

Bangladesh could seek China’s help in building infrastructure in agriculture, trade and other sectors.

Chinese Education Minister Yuan Guiren and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang were also present at the meeting.
