Dinajpur storm leaves four dead, scores of houses, trees damaged

At least four people have died as a wall collapsed on them during a heavy storm that hit Dinajpur Sadar, Chirirbandar, Phulbarhi and Nababganj Upazilas.

The storm that swept over the Upazilas around 8pm Saturday damaged scores of houses and uprooted a large number of trees.
 
The deceased are Mitu Roy, 22, from Phulbarhi, Sirajul Islam, 60, his grandchild ‘Sabbir’, 8, from Nababganj, and Aleya Begum, 65, from Chirirbandar.
 
Dinajpur district Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Shamim Al-Raji and the Upazila administration have confirmed the deaths and damages. 
 
The details of the damages are being worked out, said the DC.
 
According to the locals, Phulbarhi Upazila saw the worst damages.
 
A large number of trees by the Phulbarhi-Gobindapur Road were uprooted. Mango, litchi, banana and other seasonal fruits were severely damaged in the storm.
 
The electricity supply was cut off in the district since last night after the electric poles were damaged. 
 
Dhaka-bound buses and trucks and inter-city trains could not run at night since trees fell on the highway and on railway tracks.
