Shibir activists moved out of the F Rahman and Alaol residential halls on Friday afternoon after the skirmish and the BCL activists took position there.

BCL and Shibir are student wings of ruling Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami respectively.

Witnesses said several Shibir activists threatened one BCL member Mijanur Rahman when he went to play cricket at the Alaol Hall’s ground in the afternoon.

Several BCL activists gathered there hearing about the bullying.

Two sides hurled stones at each other and fired blank shots during the skirmish, witnesses added.

Soon after that, Shibir activists moved out of the halls allowing BCL to take over.

At least eight of the injured were treated at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, police posted there said.

Police say the situation on the campus is normal now.
