The National Moon-sighting Committee made the announcement on Tuesday evening.

The night of forgiveness and atonement will be observed with religious zest.

On the eighth month of the Muslim year and either on the thirteenth or fourteenth day of Shaban this festival is celebrated, coinciding just fifteen days before the arrival of Ramadan.

“The Shaban moon was spotted Tuesday evening in Bangladesh and so, Shab-e-Barat will be celebrated on the night of June 2,” Islamic Foundation Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal told reporters.
