Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited Senior Officer Faridul Islam filed a case on Wednesday over the killing of seven people and the looting of Tk 687,193 from the bank vault.

Two arrested robbers - ‘Saiful’ and Borhan Uddin - were named in the case along with eight to 10 unidentified others.

Ashulia Police Station OC Mostafa Kamal said Sub-Inspector Zkaria Hossain filed the other case against 200-300 unidentified villagers over the lynching of a robber.

Robbers raided the bank’s Kathgarha branch with guns and bombs around 2pm on Tuesday.

They killed the branch manager, a security guard and another before fleeing with cash looted from the vault.

Three others were also killed when locals tried to stop them. Another died in the hospital later.

A motorcycle carrying two of the robbers crashed at one stage and the locals beat one to death.

Authorities recovered Tk 607,255 immediately after the incident.

Kamal said a bank security guard, Sohel Rana, was arrested from Durgapur on Tuesday night on the suspicion of his possible involvement.

Several teams of the police, Detective Branch officials, and RAB were conducting raids to arrest the rest of the robbers, he added.
