HC issues rule over attack on Hindus in Gazipur

The High Court has asked the authorities as to what steps have been taken over the attack on a temple and Hindus at Bangram in Gazipur.

The authorities were asked to submit a report about the attacks and the steps taken thereafter on May 6.
 
The bench of Justices Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued a suo moto rule on Tuesday.
 
It also ordered to set up a police camp at Bangram and take other steps necessary to bring normalcy in the area to protect the lives and properties of the Hindus.
 
Deputy Attorney General Taposh Kumar Biswas stood for the state.
 
He said the High Court also issued a rule asking why not securing the minorities should not be taken as a failure.
 
The home secretary, inspector general of police, Gazipur deputy commissioner, police superintendent and Sadar Police Station OC were asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.
 
Several national dailies published report on the attack on Tuesday.
 
According to the reports, several houses and a temple in the area occupied by Hindus were attacked on Sunday night.
 
At least seven were injured in the attack on the temple of Goddess Kali and the nearby houses.
 
A report, referring to the Hindus, other locals and police, said over 50 miscreants led by one Rafiqul Islam came to the area using 10-12 microbuses.
 
They fired from guns and some of the attackers were dressed like policemen.
 
They vandalised Surendra Chandra Barman’s house and looted money and valuables.
 
The temple at the adjacent house and the houses of 20-25 people including those of Lal Mohan Barman, Sunil Chandra Barman, Satindra Barman, Niranjan Chandra Barman and five shops were also attacked and looted, the report said.
