The bench of justices Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and JBM Hassan has fixed Apr 27 to hear the matter after Abbas’ lawyer sought more time on Tuesday.

“Earlier another High Court bench had given a split verdict over bails in two other cases and that is yet to be forwarded to another bench.

“We sought a week on this ground and the court accepted it,” the BNP leader’s lawyer Jainul Abedin told bdnews24.com.

Abbas, who is a mayor candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation, has been not seen in public for three months until Apr 13, when he came to the High Court to file bail petitions in three cases.

He has sought bail in two cases of violence filed with Dhaka’s Paltan and Motijheel police stations.

The third case, filed by the Anti Corruption Commission over irregularities in land allotment, does not name Abbas, but the BNP leader sought anticipatory bail ‘apprehending arrest’.
