At least five passengers were injured when the bus was attacked on Monday morning amid a countrywide general strike called by the party protesting the execution of its leader and war criminal Mohammmad Kamaruzzaman.

Quoting locals, Fire Service Inspector Md Shahin Alam said that the bus was on its way to Nabinagar from Gazipur with 10 to 15 passengers.

“Around 6:30am, strike supporters in Shibbarhi stoned the bus before sprinkling petrol and setting it on fire.”

Five passengers were injured while rushing out of the bus on fire.

Two of them were treated at the Shahid Tajuddin Medical College and Hospitals, according to Resident Physician Abdus Salam Sarkar.

Jamaat’s Senior Assistant Secretary General Kamaruzzaman was hanged on Saturday after he was found guilty of crimes like murder, rape, looting and arson of civilians during the 1971 Liberation War.
