Three more burn, two die from wounds in blockade violence

Three people have been burned in a petrol bomb attack on a truck in Bogra while a transport worker has been injured in a similar attack in capital Dhaka amid the countrywide transport blockade.

Meanwhile, two people injured in explosions in Dhaka died on Thursday.

bdnews24.com Bogra correspondent said a driver, his assistant and a trader were burned when miscreants hurled petrol bombs at a truck at Nungola in Bogra Sadar Upazila on Thursday night.

Police identified the victims as driver ‘Titon’, assistant Abdur Rahim and businessman ‘Saju’.

Sadar Police Station OC Abul Bashar said furniture trader Saju was carrying his goods to a fair in Narail on the truck.

“Blockade supporters hurled petrol bombs at the truck at Nungola around 8pm,” he said.

The injured have been admitted to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.

At least 30 people have died in blockade-related violence including bomb attacks and arson of vehicles.

Khaleda Zia called the blockade failing to leave her office, due to police obstruction, to attend a party programme on Jan 5.

The two who died in Dhaka on Thursday are college student Sanjid Islam Ovi and pro-BNP Chhatra Dal leader Mahbubur Rahman Bappi.

Ovi was injured in a hand-bomb explosion on Jan 14.

Police said Bappi sustained injuries while a bomb he was making went off.

In Dhaka, four vehicles including three buses were torched from Thursday afternoon to night.

Police said the assistant of a driver was injured when miscreants threw hand bombs on a human hauler at Mohammadpur.

Injured ‘Sohag’, 22, has been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

bdnews24.com Gazipur Correspondent said miscreants set ablaze a truck, carrying cement, in Panjorha Bypass Kiton in the district.

However, no casualties were reported.

Kaliganj Police Station OC Md Mostafizur Rahman said the truck was bound for Dinajpur from Narayanganj’s Kachpur.
