Teacher mother, daughter, two others killed in Cox’s Bazar crash

A microbus hit a bus head-on leaving four persons including a teacher and her daughter dead in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria Upazila.

Chiringa highway police camp SI Fayezur Rahman said the accident occurred near Baniarchharha on the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong Highway around 10:30am on Friday, leaving another nine injured.

All the victims were microbus passengers. They are Cox’s Bazar Model High School head teacher Tahera Begum, 45, her daughter Tasmia Ismail, 25, their domestic help Kohinoor Akter, 25, and driver Joynal Uddin, whose age could not be immediately known.

Begum used to live in the resort town Cox’s Bazar’s Badar Mokam locality. Uddin was the son of Ali Akbar of Haldiapalong of Ukhia Upazila.

Two of the injured were admitted to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, while the other seven to the Chakaria Health Complex.

The Cox’s Bazar-bound bus, which was reserved by a group off for a picnic, crashed into the microbus that rushed in from the opposite direction killing two on the spot, said Rahman.

Another died at Chakaria Health Centre and the other died at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
