Vehicles vandalised, torched

Several vehicles have been vandalised and torched in different parts of the country on the seventh day of a non-stop transport blockade enforced by the BNP.

Police arrested several BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists on Monday on charges of committing ‘subversive acts’.

The blockade supporters hurled crude bombs at police in different places but no death or injury was reported.

Savar-Ashulia

Agitators vandalised at least 10 vehicles at Savar and Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka on Monday.

They also torched a bus carrying garment factory workers. However no one was hurt in the incident.

Police said 18 leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat were arrested from Savar, Ashulia and Dhamrai.

Rajshahi

Agitators blockaded highways at different places in the district and torched several goods-laden vehicles.

They hurled two hand-made bombs at police at Puthia.

Chittagong

Police arrested 42 people, including BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists during raids in seven Upazilas in the district.

Sirajganj

Law enforcers caught 19 BNP and Jamaat activists in the district for ‘subversive acts and hindering police work’.

Chandpur

Blockade supporters set on fire an auto-rickshaw in the district town. They vandalised several vehicles on the Chandpur-Comilla road.

However, no one was injured in the incidents.

Kushtia

Pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal took out a procession from the Court Station area of the district town in protest against the arrest of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates.

Police dispersed them in the Mazampur Gate area.

Earlier, on Sunday night, miscreants torched a private car on the Kushtia-Khulna Highway.

Jhenaidah

Police arrested three activists of the BNP and Jamaat during a raid in the early hours of Monday.

Earlier, on Sunday night, blockade supporters vandalised a truck on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia road. They also torched a Dhaka-bound bus in Kabir area.
