Former Chief Justice Mustafa Kamal passes away

Former Chief Justice Mustafa Kamal has passed away at 81.

He died of heart disease at his house around 3am on Monday.

Upon hearing the news, the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division judges came down from the courtroom as a mark of respect for Justice Kamal.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep regret over his demise.

Son of renowned folk singer Abbas Uddin, Mustafa Kamal was Bangladesh’s chief justice from July to December in 1999. He was born in Nilphamari’s Domar in 1935.

After getting a Masters degree from the Dhaka University in 1954, he studied law in the United Kingdom.

The funeral prayers of Mustafa Kamal will be held at the Supreme Court premises at noon, said his relatives.
